The First Steps By increasing the existing WiFi signal and improving overall signal quality over long distances, Netgear Extender Setupthe NETGEAR WiFi Range Extender or Mywifiext.net the range of a WiFi network. The signals from an existing WiFi router or access point are repeated by an extender.

You may also use the extender as an 11ac access point by connecting it to your router or gateway with an Ethernet wire. On page 15, you’ll find instructions for setting up the Extender as an access point.

LED Descriptions:

LED Router Link This LED indicates that the extender is connected to the router or access point.

  • A solid shade of green. The best possible connection.
  • A solid amber colour. The connection is excellent.
  • It’s all crimson. This is a bad connection.
  • It’s turned off. There’s no connection.

LED Client Link This LED indicates that the extender is connected to a PC or mobile device.

  • A solid shade of green. The best possible connection.
  • A solid amber colour. The connection is excellent.
  • It’s all crimson. This is a bad connection.
  • There is no relationship.

LED with high output 

  • A solid amber colour. The extender is starting to work.
  • A solid shade of green. The extender has been turned on.
  • Turned off. The extender has been turned off.
  • Solid green WPS LED WiFi encryption is enabled (WPA or WPA2).
  • The colour green is blinking. A WPS connection is being established.
  • Turned off. WiFi security isn’t turned.

Install the WiFi Extender:

Connect the extender to your WiFi network, plug it in, and turn it on.

Apply Power and Place the Extender:

Make sure your WiFi Netgear Extender Setup  is in the same room as your router.

Note: Only the first setup step necessitates proximity to the WiFi router.

  • Connect the extender to a power source.
  • Green is the colour of the Power LED. If the Power LED does not illuminate,
  • Press the Power button to turn on the light.
  • Make sure the extender’s switch is set to Extender.

Connect to a WiFi Network that Already Exists

You must connect the extender to your existing WiFi network to extend the range of your WiFi network. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:

  • Make a WPS connection. Connect with WPS on page 6 for additional information.
  • Use genie Smart Setup to connect. See this page for further details.

On page 8, connect using NETGEAR genie Smart Setup.

Connect with WPS

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) allows you to connect to a secure WiFi network without having to type in the network name or password. The WPS button on the router or access point is a physical button.

WEP network security is not supported by WPS. See Connect with NETGEAR genie Smart Setup on page 8 if you’re using WEP security.

To connect with WPS,

  • press the WPS button on the extender’s side panel.
  • The WPS LED turns on and off.
  • Press the WPS button on your router or access point within two minutes.
  • The extender’s WPS LED is solid green, and the Router Link LED is solid green.
  • The extender is connected to your existing power source and has LED lights.

Note: If the Router Link LED does not illuminate, repeat the process. If the problem persists,

  • Unplug the extender and relocate it closer to the router.
  • There is a weak WiFi signal in this location.

  • Wait one minute after plugging the extender into an electrical socket.
  • Green is the colour of the Power LED. Press the Power button if the Power LED does not light up.
  • Use the Router Link LED on the front panel to assist you in selecting a network.
  • The best location for the extender-to-router link.
