What Is A Better Job: IBPS PO Or SBI PO?

 December 16, 2021

If you’re confused between the two competitive exams, SBI PO or IBPS PO, this article is for you. The positions offered upon clearing these exams are two of the most profitable and sought-after jobs in the banking sector. So, you need to make sure that your exam preparation is excellent. To make your choice between the two easier, read the details on these exams.

The greatest advantage of the IBPS PO is that it acts as the selection process for most Indian banks, while the State Bank of India only considers the SBI IPO. However, candidates who pass the SBI PO exam are usually offered a better starting salary.

Exam Stages & Patterns

The IBPS PO examination is an online examination conducted to recruit Probationary Officers in banks, while the SBI PO is only for recruitment for the State Bank of India. Both examinations follow the three stages: Preliminary examination, Mains examination, along with a descriptive test, and finally, a Personal interview.

The IBPS PO or SBI PO prelims exam consists of three major sections: Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, and English Language. In the Mains examination, computer and banking-related questions are also asked in an additional section. So, one should have a complete picture of the syllabus in the very initial phase of SBI PO exam preparation.

The SBI PO examination is a bit tougher to crack than the IBPS PO examination as the level of difficulty of questions asked is on a higher side.

Work Profile

The roles and responsibilities of both IBPS PO and SBI PO are the same. The Probationary Officers are required to carry out the following activities in addition to administrative activities.

  • The most important task of the PO is to process and respond to inquiries from various customers. In addition, they also need to support the use of services, such as online banking, ATM services, credit cards, cheque books, deposits, opening new accounts and loans.

  • If the pressure and the workload are high, the PO is also required to do the paperwork. The banker has to deal with financial tasks, such as processing payments, collecting and withdrawing cash from cashiers, and managing customer accounts.

  • One of the most essential jobs for a banker is customer service, so he needs to work towards it to grow the bank’s business. Bankers can offer services and products, such as DEMAT accounts, insurance plans, and time deposits. The PO needs to make formal communication with other departments and produce reports.

The designation starts from PO Scale-I, PO Scale-II, PO Scale-III, PO Scale-IV, PO Scale-V, PO Scale-VI to PO Scale-VII, followed by General Manager, Executive Director and finally, Managing Director and Chairman of a particular bank.

Salary Structure

The salary structures are almost the same, with a gross salary of around Rs. 55,000 to Rs. 60,000 per month. However, the SBI PO salary is higher by a margin of Rs. 5000 to Rs. 6000 per month. The job also entitles you to additional facilities, such as HRA, DA, Special Allowance, and City compensatory allowances.

Conclusion

An SBI PO has a better salary structure and compensation package than an IBPS PO. From the above information, it is clear that the SBI PO’s position is slightly better. It does not mean that the IBPS PO position is not significant enough. Both exams are competitive, and after selection as a banker, the growth is equally good. However, if you can clear the SBI PO exam stages, the career aspects can become brighter for you. Every aspirant needs to work hard for these examinations and try to give their best.
